The Headaches of Problem GamblingMany of us have always had dreams and fantasies of winning the lottery, or being able to gain a huge sum of money in various gaming sites either online or in casinos in real life. However, many of these fantasies will always be just part of our great imagination. Many, on the other hand, would take gambles, and place high wagers on a certain gambling game and always seem to be lucky enough to profit from it. While those who are less fortunate, end up losing more than what they have bargained for. Such is the headaches that come with gambling. Some surveys would suggest that a great amount of the world's population, be it either in the west or in the east, would have present, many compulsive gamblers wherein these people are very much addicted to all sorts of forms of gambling that it starts to become a huge problem, not only for them, but for the people that socialize with them, such as immediate family members, peers, office mates or one's own boss. A number of these problem gamblers can be those people in their teenaged years like college students and young adults. Some even say that young adults are exposed to a much higher risk of later on, developing a really bad case of compulsive gambling problems as compared to the adults. Some would be young and unmarried and come from a good school or from a good background, who eventually succumb to their gambling addiction and end up making a mess of their own lives, skipping school, resulting to negative and unsocial behavior, and the like. When gambling gets into that stage where it becomes a very serious problem, it certainly starts to be a major headache to everyone that is involved. And by this, it is not just the victim with the gambling addiction that would have a problem, but it would eventually lead to other more problems that would certainly involve either his next of kin or people who actually care about them. It is very difficult for a person who cares about a compulsive gambler to actually help the person because most of these people would start denying that they actually are having a problem with gambling, even though the problem is right in his face and is pointed out not just by one, but by many people. In cases like these, someone who cares for the victim should be as supportive as possible and try not to reprimand in such a way that it sounds like a lecture or a verbal attack. Doing so would make that person hide behind his shell even more and start to deny much more. |
