Winning in Multi Table Poker Tournaments
Winning in a multi table tournament (MTT) is no easy task, and even professionals will have to be at their best to have a chance. For newcomers the situation may seem bleak, but if you know some basic Poker strategies for tournament play, you will find yourself in contention.
Among the things that you will have to do when it comes to playing in Poker MTTS is to divide the event into three parts: the early, middle and final halves. Some will even divide it into four, early middle late and final table.
During the early stage, your Poker strategy for an MTT will depend on your experience. If you are a complete novice, you need to play it conservatively. This does not mean you should be tight aggressive; rather you should play like a rock. The reason you want to do this is you could end up being caught in a battle between calling stations and maniacs, and lose a lot of your chips.
If you are experienced however, you can play more aggressively in the early stages of a multi table tournament. By playing lots of hands like suited connectors, pocket pairs, high pairs, etc, you will be able to build up your Poker chip stack and help you get ready for the latter stages.
When you are in the middle phase, you should focus on building up your stack. Depending on how far behind you are of the Poker chip leaders, you will have to make your move by opening up and being more aggressive. This means playing a lot more hands, but only if you are in position or against a weak player.
At the final table, your Poker MTT strategy will have to be one of aggression. You will have to tell yourself not to be nervous and know that you made it this far, not because of luck, but because of your skill. As much as possible, play according to the basic strategies for playing in tournaments. That is how you got to the final table, and in a lot of cases, that is how you will win.
Playing in a multi table Poker tournament is quite a challenge for any player. It will require a lot of effort on your part, but then, so does every variation of the game. And in a tourney, the reward for your perseverance and patience can be absolutely tremendous.
